Montenegro Blues…

If anyone is wondering where to go on their next holiday – go to Montenegro! What a beautiful place. The scenery in breathtaking – mountains of green and grey with bright blue skies all wrapped up in an crustal blue waters and historic villages. We were based in Morinj which is near the larger historic town of Kotor – old stone winding streets and white buildings with an impressive rock face for a back drop. If you head further south to Budvar I think it begins to be a little more obviously touristy – large hotels and beach bars – also apparently very good but we were chuffed to be amongst the pretty historic parts. The others went for a night out in Budvar including a nightclub built into the mountains with acrobats flying over head and possibly a few dancing girls…think it was called Hill Top – they were awestruck by it. The food isn’t Montenegro’s strong point but if you travel the distance you can find fresh ingredients – restaurants seemed to be mainly pizza/pasta…..however, we ate and drank very well in our villa!!

The villa was stunning and packed full of a brilliant bunch of people who provided endless laughs and adventures (Tack Sweden crew) The bug completed her biggest challenge yet of scaling the 3km winding hill road up to the villa and was duly rewarded with a 4 day rest. We spent time at the beach bar near the villa, endlessly staring at the views from villa terrace and most special of all was a 5 hour boat trip around all of the local bays stopping to leap into the sea and enjoying our own on board picnic (a few snacks and a LOT of beers). With music playing, sun shining and views we won’t forget – it was, as Dave kept saying, Epic.

We were very sad to leave our first bit of a more traditional holiday and such a beautiful country but alas we have a ferry to catch on Thursday and need a few days to take in all that Dubrovnik has to offer. It’s not right to have holiday blues when your still on holiday…time to head to the beach and snap out of it!

Hvala Montenegro!

I’m so proud of your cool adventure, keep going strong, take on all the
challenges, never say no and savour that trip of a lifetime. The hard bits make the good bits better. Big love! See you in a year for a grand reunion in Sweden.

  2. Great to hear you on the phone and see you on the blog. It does look a lovely place. Enjoy the sunshine too. Pretty grim here at the moment although lovely couple of days at weekend for the cycling.Kitchen grinds exceedingly slow. Can only imagine what your house renovations seemed like at the time. Hope you like the end result here. I am beginning to think it will be lovely myself. Thanks for the brainwave of putting kitchen into new extended bit, Sophie. It is going to work a treat!loads of love Mum and Dad XX

    • Well we have just hit 2000 landmiles so I would hardly say we are doing it all by ferry! By taking the ferry occasionally we ensure we can see as many countries as possible with limited time and money – and no breakdowns so far so the camper is certainly making the most of the rest time.
